Fact: You’ll Love Your Skin Again Once You Try Our Herbivore Faves

Our top picks from one of our favorite cruelty-free luxury skincare brands.

By: Amber

If you’ve never heard of Herbivore Botanicals, don’t worry — you’re late to the party, but we’re going to bring you up to speed with a compilation of our current favorites from the luxury skincare brand.

Herbivore B is the perfect amalgamation of our two strongest indulgences: beautiful things and taking stellar care of our skin. We suffered from chronic acne for eight years so now that our skin is clear, we’re unapologetically snobbish about the products we use on our skin. It’s our way of showing gratitude to the skin we have now…and okay, fine — it’s how we also get our fix of bougie.

The goal is to feel confident in going makeup-free (which we do). The only way to do that is to eat clean and use quality products. And if you can’t afford to totally redo your beauty cabinet in one sweep, then go one product at a time like we’ve been doing.

What you should know about the brand

Herbivore Botanicals is a luxury skincare brand that’s all natural and everything is 100% cruelty-free. (ICYMI: we broke down everything you need to know about what cruelty-free means.) That means there’s no BS in their products. It also means that they don’t test on animals during any part of the manufacturing process, which we’re extremely passionate about. The best part is this is a newer brand, so even though the products are a bit pricey, you’re not paying for a label. You’re paying for products that are made in the U.S. with premium ingredients actually really work. There’s no watered-down nonsense going on here.

So, before we get into the new stuff we’re loving, Herbivore makes one of our holy grail skincare products. If you missed us breaking down why we’re so obsessed with their Orchid Face Oil, definitely check it out.

After falling in love with the first product we tried from the Herbivore range, we knew we had to try more. Below are the products that we’ve incorporated into our everyday beauty routine for the past several weeks. WARNING: you might find a HG product to add to your daily skincare routine.

Blue Tansy AHA + BHA Resurfacing Clarity Mask

A bunch of natural good stuff that will decongest your pores and clear up your skin if you’re dealing with breakouts/blemishes/weird hormonal shit. Oh you wanted us to be a bit more technical, huh? Okay, this has white willow bark (high in salicylic acid), fruit enzymes, aloe leaf (more salicylic acid), and of course, blue tansy oil (an anti-inflammatory). The full list of ingredients can be found here.

Clean your face first, then spread a thin layer over your skin. Leave it on for 15-20 mins, only five if you have sensitive skin.

When you think of a face mask, does a thick, kinda clumpy, pasty cream come to mind — you know, the kind that makes you look cray and gets annoyingly stuck in your acrylic tips? Some are worth the suffering like the Mega Greens Galaxy Pack by Glossier, but we prefer the thin gel-like formula of this mask because it not only goes on super easy, but it’s also one you can wear in front of your S/O (without scaring them). This mask tingles in the beginning as the active ingredients get to work, but it doesn’t make your skin tight like some masks tend to do. It’s also gentle enough to use for consecutive days so if your skin is freaking out, you can consistently keep it in check.

Brighten Pineapple + Gemstone Mask

herbivore brighten mask

This radiance-inducing mask contains Brazilian white tourmaline gemstone (!), pineapple and papaya enzymes, rice powder, and rose distillate, which all together works to brighten, smooth, and tone your skin. It also leaves your face feeling baby’s-ass soft. The full list of ingredients can be found here.

This mask is powerful at lightening any scars left over from the sun, blemishes, or acne, but gentle enough to use on a daily basis. Smooth a thin layer all over your face and make sure to wipe the excess down on your neck. You might tingle for the first few minutes, but it goes away once the formula starts to dry up. This mask is best used at night so you don’t expose your skin to harsh sun rays directly after. If you do go out, make sure to layer up on the SPF.

Come on, gemstones? If that’s not enough to convince you to try this mask, then seriously, what is? Okay, we’ve got it: our skin freaked the eff out when we started taking B12 supplements (the surplus of red bloods cells can cause stubborn breakouts if you have acne-prone skin) and left us with tons of scars. Plus, we have extreme hyper-pigmentation due to the nature of our dry skin, so it was a nightmare once we stopped popping them. We used this mask every night for 2 weeks and seriously, our scars had faded dramatically.

Rose Hibiscus Hydrating Mist

herbivore rose hisbiscus hydrating mist

This stuff is made with a base of coconut water (yummy) and infused with youth-boosting hibiscus flower petals. The full list of ingredients can be found here.

Even though we always OD on this stuff — it’s like the Lays of skincare products — a few spritzes go a long way. Make sure you shake the bottle before using and you’ll be good. You can use a few spritzes under your moisturizer if you’re feeling extra dry or you can use it to refresh throughout the day.

Rose-scented anything gets our heart beating out of control. The smell of this mist is almost as good as it feels on your skin. And it’s amazing for toning the skin.

Jasmine Body Oil

This has more than Jasmine (Sambac) oil inside, which gives the product it’s intoxicating smell. It also mostly contains grapeseed oil (which is high in linoleic acid, Vitamins C, D, and E) and Camellia flower oil (a centuries -old Japanese beauty secret). There’s also some other goodies like coconut oil and jojoba oil. Together, these precious oils combine to create a super lightweight formula that feels like silk on your skin. The full list of ingredients can be found here.

Don’t be afraid of oils thinking they’re going to make you look greasy. This is amazing to layer under your lotion in the dry winter months or add to your legs before you go out on a date. To make sure you don’t go through the bottle too quickly, you can add a modest 1-2 pumps to your daily lotion.

Oils are great because scents attach to them better versus bare skin, so your fragrance will last longer when you layer a body oil underneath. This one happens to be a lightweight oil with a gorgeous, but subdued scent, which is great for layering another scent over it. Once you rub it in your skin you don’t feel a greasiness. Your skin just feels like you injected a million billion dollars in it. And the pump is awesome because well, pumps are always better and it saves a mess.

Coco Rose Body Polish

Question — would you pay the price of dinner at a good restaurant to bathe your skin in Moroccan oil distilled from thousands of rare rose petals. Thought so. Moroccan rose oil is actually infamous for being a natural anti-inflammatory and can reduce redness. This is some serious rich bitch stuff right here and we love it. The full list of ingredients can be found here.

Honestly your moisturizing game is weak if you let it stop at your face and neck (are you good like that?). We have no idea how some people spend longer than five minutes in the shower. We’re in and out in three minutes flat. But since we’re convinced that superior moisturization (no, that is not a word, but we’re going to pretend it is) is the key to retaining youth and ashiness is real in the winter months, we go the extra step to apply this and let it soak in for about a minute.

Just like with every Herbivore product, this one does as it claims, no BS. It leaves the skin on your body crazy moisturized. Oh, yeah and you know how you’ve seen some of your favorite bloggers/vloggers storing their makeup brushes in empty Diptyque candle jars? This body polish comes in  a chic reusable jar too so you can add it to your vanity to store little bits and bobs when you use up the product. Just do not put this on your face! This has a high level of coconut oil in it, which is a highly comedogenic oil. All that means is unless you have miracle skin that never breaks out, you will break out like crazy if you put this on your face.
