You’re Guaranteed To Find A Top-shelf Must-have From This Skincare Line
Seriously, eco-beauty has never been this chic.
TRUTH: ever since going exclusively cruelty-free, it’s been really challenging (like way more than we anticipated) to replace all our everyday skincare essentials. So far we’ve found some gems for one-twice/week targeted skincare like our Herbivore Botanicals Brightening Pineapple Mask, Glossier Super Bounce, Osea Ocean Cleansing Mudd, NUORI Supreme-C Serum Treatment and The Ordinary Advanced Retinoid 2%. And some were easy to replace: we’re still obsessed with our Honest Beauty Invisible Blur Powder and Everything Organic Facial Oil. But we’re still on the hunt for the perfect everyday basics like cleanser, toner, and morning moisturizer. With the plethora of beauty brands out there, you would expect it to be a simple task. Turns out, it’s an arduous (but fun) process full of endless trial and error.
Thing is, we never felt too special about our drugstore routine, but it was affordable, assessable, and most importantly, it was effective. Giving these staples up because they were made by companies who still test on animals (*ugh*) was definitely tough and the transition is still very much happening. We haven’t found those holy grail products that we order in bulk because we’re afraid they might get discontinued or run out of stock. You know, those products you wake up to use? If you’re skincare junkies like us, you’ll so get it. If not, we’re still pretty sure you can appreciate a product that genuinely changes your skin (so basically your entire life) once it finds its way up on your top shelf.
The goal is to get back to the place where we literally don’t have to think about the products we use every day, morning and night. Easy, reliable products that do what they’re supposed to do and are simple to apply. Of course, products that are made from good ingredients and eco-friendly are always a plus.
We first discovered Indie Lee when it ended up featured in one of Into The Gloss’s favorites of the month roundups. One of our favorite ITG editors, @Emily_Ferber, talked about how they made the most perfect toner. Not the hydrating kind that’s sticky and weird. Not the targeted kind that doesn’t yield any measurable results. To Emily, this toner is the perfect “balancing act.” Well, aside that the whole purpose of a toner is to help balance out your skin, we’d been attempting to fully reset our skin after it freaked the eff out on us after using a product that just didn’t agree with our epidermis. So not only were we looking for a great toner, but we also wanted some stability. We wanted high-quality products that we could use effortlessly and see results for at least a couple months.
So we tried Indie Lee’s three hero products. Here’s what we think:
We could write a novel about how hard it’s been to find an effective daily cleanser that we enjoy using since giving up our drugstore routine to go 100% cruelty-free, but here’s the short version we’d tried almost every clean and toxic-free foaming, gentle and enzyme cleanser out there and just hadn’t found what we were looking for — something targeted and comfortable to use. We’d found gentle cleansers that basically felt like we were rubbing our skin with opaque water and then targeted ones that were great for clearing pores or to double-cleanse with, but not sufficient enough to use on their own. This one is the perfect combination and especially great if you have acne-prone skin like us because it’s designed to brighten any hyper-pigmentation or pockmarks left over from blemishes.
Okay, first, the smell. We love anything with a pleasant, fresh, light fragrance. This smells like a handful of strawberries, guys, and the cool part is that it’s made without artificial fragrance. Even better is the soft, creamy consistency. It’s formulated without parabens, phthalates, and sulfates so you’re not getting that fake sudsy effect, but it still gives you the satisfaction you need when you’re cleaning your face.
Packaging-wise, this is golden. It comes in a tall 4-ounce glass bottle, and since you only need a dime-size amount (or one pump) it will last you a nice while.
We can tell you the last time we were as excited as we were to try this line, namely the toner. Not only was this the HG product Emily was raving about, but like a simple daily effective cleanser, a hard-working clean toner that didn’t just feel like special water was also harder to find than it should have been.
There’s three things we’re always trying to do with our skin: keep our pH balance level, brighten any dark spots leftover from acne scars, and shrink the appearance of our pores. This toner does it all.
You know how most toners and astringents are super drying and some even irritating, but you keep using them because they’re effective at keeping your breakouts at bay? Well, if you hate that uncomfortably tight, stripped feeling those leave, but want that intense clean feeling, then definitely try this one. It not only has aloe, which we all know is super soothing, but it also has hyaluronic acid, which is the best for adding lightweight moisture to the skin. A toner that moisturizes? We don’t know if we’re ever going to give this stuff up. We alternate between using this and our Thayers Rose Witch Hazel and it’s been working amazingly.
You guys know by now that we’re total oil converts. If you’re still not on the bandwagon, this is the oil to try first. This product is great because you only need 2-3 drops for every application, and we find that it’s best used as a part of your nighttime routine under or in placement of a cream or emollient moisturizer, especially in the summer. Our bottle is about halfway done in three months so that just goes to show you how much value you’re getting.
Most important, this oil is perfect for all skin types, including sensitive and acne-prone. It’s completely non-comedogenic, meaning it will not clog your pores the way something like coconut oil will. It’s also super thin and lightweight, so you won’t feel greasy or heavy and you can easily wear makeup or just a good translucent powder on top.
