It’s right around the time when most people give up on their resolutions, but we really want you all to achieve all of your goals this year, be it small goals or big ones. Even if this isn’t on your list of resolutions, it should be because you can never eat too many greens, can you? “Going vegan” has been reported as one of the most popular resolutions for 2018 (yay!). But here’s the thing: so many people have tried switching over to a plant-based diet and have failed miserably. Maybe this is you? Well, time for some facts. The number one reason why a person will fail a vegan diet is unanimous and oddly simple: lack of education.
Deciding to go vegan for health reasons is great, but it isn’t your fear of heart disease that’s going to keep you on a vegan diet. The only thing that will keep you away from sneaking a chicken nugget from your friend’s plate when they’re not looking is having made the ethical connection to what you consider your “food”. Without this realization, you will fail. It’s inevitable. You may last a week, a month, a year, but you will eventually fail. And no, were not being harsh or “negative”. This is the truth.
If watching hour-long educational documentaries or slightly awkward street confrontations on YouTube are not your thing, perhaps some (totally relatable) literature will be all the motivation you need to stick to your dietary commitment. Skinny Bitch didn’t make us go vegan (we had already made the switch), but it definitely firmed our newly found convictions. It’s crazy easy to read, funny as hell and extremely informative. In addition to knowing why being vegan is important, which this book covers very well, you will also learn how to eat a vegan diet (there’s a ton of recipes and meal ideas at the end of the book), and more importantly, how to eat a healthy vegan diet, which most people are fairly clueless about. Once you truly make that connection you will feel something switch inside you, and eating plants will no longer be a challenge. Trust us when we say you will no longer “crave” animals. It may sound like a bunch of bullshit, but you should know us well enough by now that we wouldn’t tell you something unless we think it’s true.
