News Years Resolution Gift Guide

Yes, these gifts are for you.

You’ve set your resolutions for 2018, so now you’ve got to hold yourself accountable. It’s right around the time when most people give up on their resolutions, but we really want you all to achieve all of your goals this year, be it small goals or big ones. Think of these gifts less as indulgences and more of investments in your future. Here’s to making it count.

Even if this isn’t on your list of resolutions, it should be because you can never eat too many greens, can you? If you don’t already eat a plant-based diet, getting your greens can be a bit of a challenge. Which is why we appreciate little pots of goodness like the Greens 6-Pack Dietary Supplement from 8G. At only 10 calories per tablet, which includes spinach, wheatgrass, kale, blue-green algae, spirulina, chlorella, barley grass and aloe vera, you’re getting a full days worth of nutrition. It also includes ascorbic acid, niacin, vitamins B3, B5 and B12, zinc, sodium bicarbonate and potassium bicarbonate. What is doesn’t include is equally as important, though: wheat, gluten, sugars, allergens, dairy, preservatives, and salt. If you’re vegan (and even if you’re not) this is a great supplement to add to your repertoire since it has as much B12 as seven cups of milk. Damn. That’s pretty impressive.

Athletic Propulsion Labs’ ‘Phantom 3D’ sneakers are made from flexible, breathable mesh with four-way stretch. They’re ideal for running and can even help improve your performance due to the incredible flexibility and its Propelium™ midsole, which features a grooved base for traction and is engineered to regenerate energy. Besides, they’re so chic, come on.

If you’ve been bulking and doing your deadlifts and glute isolations consistently, but seem to have hit a plateau in growth (BTW, if you’ve only been at this for 30 days, be patient :). Building muscle takes time!), consider adding a protein supplement into your diet. When you’re trying to grow muscles, any muscle, be it your biceps, your deltoids or your glutes, you need adequate amounts of calories in order to see real growth. Sometimes, getting in enough (of the right) calories can be a challenge, especially if you have a busy schedule. This is where a protein supplement comes in handy. We love this vegan Nourishing Protein from The Super Elixir. Side note: if you’re trying to lose weight, you do not need to chug down the protein, people. Here’s to growing that 🍑 👀 🔥 !

Every experienced yogi knows that one of the most crucial elements for an effective and strengthening practice is a high-quality yoga mat that doesn’t slip, especially if you’re a fan of Vinyasa yoga. That way, your feet, and hands are able to get a firm grip so you can hold even the most challenging poses. NO KA’OI makes one of the best mats we’ve ever come across. We love this silver one, but it also comes is a bright pink shade. La Vie Boheme Yoga’s ‘Phoenix’ mat is also a top pick of ours. The beautiful, vibrant design is guaranteed to lift and inspire your mood during your practice.

If you’re concerned at all about aging, then you should be applying a sunscreen at least once a day, every day (yes, even when it rains). But you guys know this already, which is why it’s on your to-do list for 2018? You just need to find the perfect SPF and then you’ll commit, right? Done. As soon as it was released, every beauty blogger/YouTuber/influencer raved about the Glossier Invisible Shield Daily Sunscreen SPF 35, and there’s a reason why. It’s a natural formula that actually protects your skin, but doesn’t give you that horrible white cast or leave your skin with any extra residue post application. The formula is also hypoallergenic, dermatologist-tested, non-comedogenic, paraben free, appropriate for all skin types, cruelty-free and vegan. In other words, it’s perfect. See? Now you have no more excuses. BTW, if you already use sunscreen every day, good for you, but still, you should try this one. It will (probably) change your life.

One of the most annoying parts of traveling (often) is when you check your bag and once you arrive at your destination, your bag is lost. This is why we’ve committed to only bringing a carry-on bag when we travel. It may seem daunting at first, and for some of you, it may seem plain impossible. But trust us, once you learn how to pack more efficiently, you’ll never want to go back to checking a bag again. Genius Pack is a luggage brand that solely focuses on extreme functionality; every piece they offer is smartly designed (hence the name) to eliminate the common stresses of traveling. Our favorite feature in the “Aerial” suitcase, which is a maximum-size carry on with 360-degree spinner wheels (these are so convenient), is the interior category compartments (including one for laundry!) that make packing so easy. Also, the fact that it’s extremely light, only 6.2 lbs, is a huge plus.

We’ve already told you why using Kaia Naturals’ deodorant is the easiest way to switch over to an aluminum-free deodorant, so if you haven’t already read that post have a quick read through. Since then, Kaia Naturals has come out with something to make the transition even more stress-free: The Charcoal Underarm Detox Kit, which, just FYI, was the winner of the 2017 New Marketplace Innovation Award. The kit includes a Detox Charcoal Deodorant, The Deodorant Booster Bar, The Charcoal Detox Effervescent Hot Bath, and their Detox Guidebook. Seriously, it can’t be easier than this. Go natural, finally, and you won’t regret it.

“Going vegan” has been reported as one of the most popular resolutions for 2018 (yay!). But here’s the thing: so many people have tried switching over to a plant-based diet and have failed miserably. Maybe this is you? Well, time for some facts. The number one reason why a person will fail a vegan diet is unanimous and oddly simple: lack of education.

Deciding to go vegan for health reasons is great, but it isn’t your fear of heart disease that’s going to keep you on a vegan diet. The only thing that will keep you away from sneaking a chicken nugget from your friend’s plate when they’re not looking is having made the ethical connection to what you consider your “food”. Without this realization, you will fail. It’s inevitable. You may last a week, a month, a year, but you will eventually fail. And no, were not being harsh or “negative”. This is the truth.

If watching hour-long educational documentaries or slightly awkward street confrontations on YouTube are not your thing, perhaps some (totally relatable) literature will be all the motivation you need to stick to your dietary commitment. Skinny Bitch didn’t make us go vegan (we had already made the switch), but it definitely firmed our newly found convictions. It’s crazy easy to read, funny as hell and extremely informative. In addition to knowing why being vegan is important, which this book covers very well, you will also learn how to eat a vegan diet (there’s a ton of recipes and meal ideas at the end of the book), and more importantly, how to eat a healthy vegan diet, which most people are fairly clueless about. Once you truly make that connection you will feel something switch inside you, and eating plants will no longer be a challenge. Trust us when we say you will no longer “crave” animals. It may sound like a bunch of bullshit, but you should know us well enough by now that we wouldn’t tell you something unless we think it’s true.

  1. Thanks for the rundown! I’ve added a few of these to my list of things to sample at The Detox Market (I love their sampling program). I’ll come back and click-through if I decide to grab some full sizes.
