Seaweed Might Just Be What Your Skin Needed All Along

Especially if you have acne. Here us out on this one.

By: Dani

Acne sucks. There’s just no eloquent way to put it. We know because we’ve been dealing with it since we were twelve. To be fair, after doing a seven-month round of Accutane back in college – yes, it was that damn bad – our skin did calm down and the breakouts weren’t as frequent. But, unfortunately acne is still something we deal with on a daily basis. As of late, we’ve been trying to focus mostly on preventing breakouts rather than treating breakouts, because once a pimple pops up, it’s pretty much all downhill from there, right?

Harsh foaming cleansers and traditional topical medications that mercilessly dry and strip your skin – been there, done that – isn’t the only answer. Actually adopting a regimen that includes mild astringents, detoxifying ingredients like charcoal and clay, and healing botanicals such as aloe and green tea have substantial antibacterial and anti-inflammatory activity which really help to purify and balance your skin, thus preventing breakouts.

If you want to purify your skincare routine, but still want (need!) an effective way to control your acne, we have the answer for you, and it starts with Osea and ends with Malibu. Seriously, their skincare line is almost too good to believe (but you can totally believe it because we tested all these products out, and trust us, they’re as dope as they sound). It’s very rare, unfortunately, to find a brand that is completely vegan and cruelty-free, not to mention non-GMO, and gluten-free (because yes, some people actually have an intolerance to gluten, even in their skincare). Trust! On top of that, everything is sustainably harvested. But, the coolest thing about this brand is that it’s a female-founded family-owned company that has a background in holistic healing – not marketing, not business. Which means, there are no gimmicks, no fake or weird bullshit. We mean, we’ve always believed that women have superpowers, but now we’re completely convinced. Now that introductions are underway, allow us to present you with…

~Your new regimen ~

The benzoyl peroxide replacement: Ocean Cleansing Mudd

AKA, the most satisfying plant-based cleanser ever. The actual ingredients list speaks for itself. USDA Certified Organic Algae and Cypress oil removes surface impurities while the tea tree, peppermint, and rosemary extracts provide an addictive cooling sensation that helps the skin actually feel refreshed, and clarified. It’s formulated for oily, combo, and blemish-prone skin, but honestly even if you don’t deal with acne and breakouts, we recommend giving this cleanser a try. It’s just so damn satisfying. We’ve been using it once everyday at night, which might be a bit much for someone with drier or more sensitive skin, but since we’re well accustomed to benzoyl peroxide, this is kind of on the tame side for us. Which is weird because it seems to be just as effective at decongesting our skin and balancing excess oil. Just keep away from your eye area!

The everyday treatment that’s also a moisturizer: Blemish Balm

Let’s start off by saying we love this just as much as the Cleansing Mudd. It’s super lightweight and sinks right into your skin. The smell of this moisturizer is just as therapeutic as it is calming. It’s the perfect daytime moisturizer and since is great for layering – under makeup or under SPF. We’re definitely going to repurchase this once it’s finished…and it’s almost all gone!

The double-duty clear-all: Red Algae Mask

Even though this is called a mask, it can also be used as a spot treatment for any problems areas you may have. But before we get into specifics, let’s talk about lacking for a second. It’s rare to find a mask that comes inside a bottle with pump. The reason why we like pumps is because I tend to be very heavy-handed with our skincare, and always end up using (and essentially wasting) too much product when it’s in a free-for-all situation. With a pump there’s so much more control, which is good for us. As for the actual formula, it’s non-drying and filled with so many things that are healthy for your skin. We wouldn’t call it a magical acne cure-all (we mean, is anything really?), but it will definitely help clarify and calm your skin. How? This mask contains Canadian willow bark extract, a natural source of salicylic acid and is used an astringent.

The get-your-glow back elixir you can trust: Brightening Serum

Because your skin is begging for some radiance. Here’s all you need to know: this serum is packed with Organic Algae, Ferulic Acid and pure Vitamin C that work to really illuminate the skin overtime. Personally, we enjoy it because it’s lightweight and absorbed into the skin super quick without leaving behind some weird sticky film. It’s so good, it’s actually the first product we’ve finished from Osea (and let’s just say, the fact that we even finished a product is worth pointing out since we try so many products).
