Upgrade Your Skincare Routine With Context

Trust us, your top shelf is about to be lit. Oh yeah, and your skin will look pretty flawless, too.

So, normal Monday: Wake up, brush teeth, workout, shower, eat something, then sit in front of computer for ten-plus hours straight. That’s pretty normal, right? Maybe not, but here at GOCO, it’s what we do (and love). Another task always on our to-do list? Searching the Internet for dope beauty brands that stand up for what they believe in. Well, as we recently did our monthly (read: daily) scroll through the newly added beauty products on Revolve, as us beauty bloggers do, we got seduced by the clean ingredient lists and beautiful, black and white packaging (can you really blame us?), and wanted to try every product from Context. Literally all of them, no lie.

It’s pretty rare that we come across a beauty brand who just gets it right – everything from the branding, to yes, the actual formulas. Plus, they make candles (!). But let’s backtrack for a second. Context is made in America. Yes, they are cruelty-free. No, they do not use any phthalates, chemical fragrances or parabens. Want more great news? All of their skincare products are hypoallergenic and noncomedogenic, so you don’t have to worry about any of their products breaking you out in any weird way or giving you clogged pores. Oh, and did we mention that they have matte lipsticks and a perfectly-edited line of vegan nail polishes, because they do! More on those later.

Context doesn’t discriminate

Here’s a really awesome thing about unisex brands: because they are designed to work for both men and women, they are, by default, formulated to work on a large range of different skin-types. It doesn’t matter; their focus is on creating products that deliver results (and they do), which is what anyone, regardless of gender, can appreciate. Thumbs up for inclusive beauty brands. It’s 2017 people!

It’s all about getting in those vitamins

Topically, we mean. Context uses herbal extracts and rich botanical oils full of vitamins and nutrients to formulate products that actually work. Which is perfect for us because we get really excited to learn about the science behind products and how they actually do the things they say they do (is that embarrassing?). That said, we’re not exactly sure how it their Micro-Derm Regenerator makes your skin so soft and smooth, all we know is that our skin is the happiest it’s been in a long time after using it everyday for over a week. I guess miracles work in mysterious ways. Of course, there’s also the possibility that since its infused with multiple antioxidants – vitamins A, C and E – and the same crystals used in professional microdermabrasion treatments could totally be the reason. Plus, since it’s both a cleanser and exfoliator, it buffs always dead skin cells as it purifies your skin. And even though this cleanser does a lot it’s not scary at all; it’s very creamy and gentle.

Hydration is priority, as it very well should be

Besides searching the Internet for cool, cruelty-free brands like this one, we’ve also been reading a lot about Korean skincare, and here’s what we know: sheet masks are essential, layering is crucial and the lit-from-within glow triumphs everything, which is why hydration is never looked over. Toners that dry out or strip your skin of its natural oils are unheard of. And we kind of took that to heart. No more toners that are full of alcohol and leave your face feel tight as hell. The Hydrating Toner definitely lives up to its name. It soaks right into the skin and the natural citrus scent – smells like you’re running an orange peel over your face – is so refreshing. This toner is the perfect prep for their Intensive Daily Moisturizer, which we’ve been using in the mornings, and loving.

The all-natural moisturizer that doesn’t break us out

Because trust us, with all the coconut oil-based creams out there, their Restorative Night Cream is the anomaly. It’s simple and sinks right into the skin. We’re not a germaphobes, not in the least, so we actually like that their night cream comes in a (glass) jar. Most people moan about the germs, but we’re always like, with skincare it doesn’t matter; if we’re sticking our fingers in a jar, our hands are obviously clean because we’ve either just got out the shower or just finished washing our faces (in which case, we always wash our hands before going anywhere near our faces). There’s also something that just feels more luxurious about a jar. One caveat: it does contain hydrolyzed silk, which is a non-vegan ingredient.

They make candles, too

Okay, enough about skincare. We mean, y’all know how obsessed we are with talking all things anti-aging and glowy-skin – it’s basically one of our most fulfilled life passions – but we love beautiful, scented candles (that come in glass tumblers)…even more? The visual calm this candle gives us while burning is almost as nice as the scent. On first whiff, it smells like a bouquet of wild flowers with the stems and leaves still on. Very earthy and green, but not heavy; the sweetness is definitely there, which sort of seduces you in a different way. Once you inhale a little more you start picking up the notes of vanilla and jasmine.

It’s been a week and we’re so addicted to the scent of this candle that we’ve been burning it like crazy, and now it’s halfway gone *cry face emoji*. It’s an addiction that we’re okay with, though. BRB, going to go add a few more of their candles to our cart.

Revolutionary nail polish?

To say it’s rare to find a nail polish range that’s cruelty-free, completely vegan and non-toxic – all shades are free of Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin, Toluene, DBP and Camphor – is way more than an understatement. So the fact that Context figured out a way to marry both consciousness and chicness together so flawlessly is extremely impressive to us. Best part is that they don’t take forever to dry. Approximately 2.5 minutes (we timed it). On a personal note, we love that the collection includes both a white and black shade (surprise?). Black nail polish has always been a staple in our collection. It’s our go-to no matter what the weather or season. There’s also a mid-toned gray that we think would look great on people with darker skin, or a really good tan. Just saying.
